Montgó is more than a backdrop for photographs: its presence changes the light, the coastline and the way Dénia looks from the sea.
A natural park beside the sea
Montgó Natural Park reaches 753 metres and was declared a natural park in 1987. Its slopes hold Mediterranean plant life, traces of rural landscapes and routes looking out over the Marina Alta.
There are different ways to experience the mountain, from a coastal viewpoint to marked walking routes. Choose according to the route, the season and your group's experience.
The current official Montgó Natural Park information should guide route choices.
Before walking a trail
Check the park's current advice and the weather forecast. In warm months, avoid the hottest part of the day, carry water and sun protection, and stay on marked trails.
Routes differ considerably in distance and effort. Plan the return as part of the walk and change your plan if there is a heat, storm, fog or wind warning.
A protected place we share
Stay on authorised paths, do not pick plants, keep noise low and take all rubbish away. Small choices help protect the habitats that make the Dénia coastline distinctive.
For emergencies in Spain call 112. Follow the park authorities' current instructions and closures.
You can enjoy Montgó from Dénia too
From the harbour, beaches and old town, look inland: the mountain appears at the end of many streets and changes colour through the day.
Pair a town walk with the Dénia coast or the harbour and historic centre without planning a hike.
